Law in Contemporary Society

As much as I sometimes try to deny it, why I went to law school is the quintessential study in cognitive dissonance. I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was in middle school, and I have given every justification under the sun.
“I want to help people.”
“I want to have the power to make a difference.”
“I want to have money and security.”
They are good justifications, they really are, but none of them really made the decision for me. In the beginning, it was simple. No other profession effectively utilized all of my skills. I have always been content with my ability to write, proud of my ability to speak and surprised by my ability to think under pressure. I have wanted to be a litigator for longer than I have known the meaning of the word, because Advocacy and Argumentation just excite me. It is that excitement that truly drives me.
I just hope I can accomplish some of those other goals along the way.
