Personal Introduction

-- By RubiRodriguez - 16 Jan 2022

As a Latina growing up in a Black suburb outside of Atlanta, I learned about the importance of activism long before I learned to speak English fluently. I attribute my passion for social justice to my public school teachers who taught me about the civil rights movement and the importance of challenging oppressive systems. Good teachers invest in the minds of children, who abstractly incorporate classroom lessons into their own lives. To me, the most important lessons taught me the significance of leadership and standing up to prejudice and injustice, even when it feels frightening to do so.
