What I Wanted

I went to law school because I wanted to write legal history. I became a lawyer, at first, by accident. Later I realized that having an effect—making justice happen—was at least as important to me as writing narrative analysis of past events.

Thurgood Marshall taught me that there are only two things necessary for an ordinary person to change the world: you have to know exactly what you want and you have to know exactly how to get it. Learning how to answer those questions is what becoming a great lawyer means.
