DejaVu

DejaVu is a format designed specifically for storing scanned images of book pages, a task at which it excels. Scanned materials for this course will be made available in DejaVu (.djvu) format with a hidden layer of OCR text to enable searching through the text of the works.

Desktop readers

Linux - Most Linux distributions will have a package named djview or djview4. Simply install that viewer and any other related djvu software you wish through your distribution's standard mechanisms.

Mac - A free software viewer can be downloaded from Djvu Libre.

Windows - A free software viewer can be downloaded from Djvu Libre.

Alternate readers for all major operating systems can be downloaded from here: DJVU.org.

Browser viewing

Linux - Most Linux distributions should have a package named "djview-plugin" or similar, which will integrate with your browser of choice. Simply install that plugin and any other related djvu software you wish through your distribution's standard mechanisms.

Mac - A free software browser plugin can be downloaded from Caminova.

Windows - A free software browser plugin can be downloaded from Caminova.

Mobile readers

Android - The "Document Viewer" application available from the free software F-droid.org repository should handle all of your djvu or pdf reading needs.

iOS - A number of djvu readers are available through the app store though we cannot comment on any of their quality.
