This article seemed relevant given our discussion in class, not just this week, but throughout the semester about our own awareness of being "spied" on and why we don't seem to care that much. A particularly salient comment, I think, was made regarding the big brother bluntness of instruments that catch our attention vs. the more subtle techniques that purport to make our lives easier, our shopping choices more streamlined, and puts our information to use "for us". The black boxes in cars, for me, is an example of a big brother blunt instrument that I think most people would object to because the intrusion is palpable and the ramifications are clear. Part of what this class has done for me, is to get me to try and think outside the box (no pun intended) regarding the everyday ways that my privacy is compromised and why I should care. If someone came up to me and asked to install a black-box in my car, I would not want that. Yet, my kgbmail account is still flourishing.
