Newspaper took advantage of inefficiency of distributing information in the old days. However, content of newspaper is available for free on Google. As a business, I would not see any reason to long newspaper stocks since it is not clear how newspaper industry will create additional revenue and profit at this point. Here, I am not saying that the industry is dying, newspaper industry will survive. However, they will lose advertising and subscription revenue they used to enjoy. As you mentioned, personalization and customized content should be way to go, however, it seems only a defensive measure.
