Statement On Final Grades

Changed:

I had planned to release final grades yesterday, based on your work so far. Unfortunately, I fell ill en route back from Korea, and have been unable to work for more than two weeks. We are now facing harsher deadlines for the submission of final grades than I had intended. Many people have made new versions of their work in anticipation of my comments, so in many cases comments I had prepared but not edited or loaded before I got sick are now obsolete.

Fortunately, you all can work 100 times faster than I can. We need to take advantage of parallel effort. Over this coming weekend, July 27 to 29, I will be taking a pass through all second essays, commenting on the current versions, and suggesting further improvements where I believe they can be made quickly. If you are available to work on your essays between now and August 1, please make sure you are receiving notifications, or check for my comments when they load. I will make another pass through the entire wiki on August 1 and 2, and all final grades will be posted on or before August 3.

Fate has dealt us a tough hand. A week ago, just as I was fully recovered and returning to work, my younger brother suffered a septic infection that threatened his life. I have now spent days in the intensive care unit of his DC hospital, sitting by his bedside. He is presently out of danger, but still seriously ill. I have been working very ineffectively, and I cannot tell when that will change.

Those of you making the mistake of attending the Egregious Interview Program should consider asking your interviewers how their firm responds when an associate needs a week or ten days to deal with the hospitalization of a family member. You will find the answer enlightening, whatever it is.

My first priority now is to read the work and release grades for those who chose to delay their interim grade, so that no one's transcript will be incomplete "for EIP." I will try to give everyone some help in rewriting, but I don't know when the hours will be available. I will post information here when I have it.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
