This is an old story (in Information Age terms, at least), but an
interesting one... I picked it up before the listserv worked, and I've been
neglectfully hanging on to it.

Many of you may have seen this

a company in Florida that has been sued by Verizon for deceiving the
phone company's employees in order to obtain private phone records.
Apparently there are many such firms. Notably, this Wired article [link
below] claims lawyers are among their biggest clients. If private data
mining has eviscerated the Fourth Amendment, it seems it has also made
discovery rules less relevant as well.
